What waste is recyclable and should be separated for recyling?
There are many types of waste that should be recycled. The following materials are sorted for recycling by Waste Management companies:
Paper
Cardboard
Textiles
Wood
Metal
Plastic
Building Materials
Bricks and Rubble
Green Waste
Soil
Allen Waste collect all the types of waste listed above for recycling. We will collect separate streams of these recyclables as well as a co-mingled stream. We aim to ensure that your commercial choice to recycle is kept simple and hassle free.
After collection of your recyclables, we sort and bundle each recycling stream for forward shipping to UK recycling reprocessors.
Reprocessors identify the materials that are, and are not, suitable for their recycling processes. Green Waste or biodegradable waste, comprised of garden or park waste, such as grass or flower cuttings and hedge trimmings, is easily reprocessed into compost and other garden products.
Many building materials, such as bricks and wood, only need to be sorted for reuse. They will then be accepted by Architectural salvage yards, who take these items for reselling.
Paper Recycling and Collection
We can provide collection containers ranging from 60L bags to 1100L bins as well as cages and compactors to suit all requirements and budgets. After collection, loose office paper, envelopes, newspapers and magazines are sorted and bundled into bales and transported to a paper processor.
Cardboard Recycling and Collection
There are two main types of cardboard, corrugated cardboard, typically used for packaging and flat cardboard, typically used for cereal packets. Cardboard packaging constitutes a large proportion of this type of waste and is best collected in bales for onward shipping. Loose cardboard can also be collected using our range of containers as with paper.
Metal Recycling and Collection
We collect and separate ferrous and non ferrous metals for recycling.
Ferrous Metals
These are metals which contain iron. All ferrous metals are magnetic and give little resistance to corrosion.
Non Ferrous Metals
These are metals which do not contain any iron. They are not magnetic and are usually more resistant to corrosion than ferrous metals.
Plastic
There are over 50 different types of plastic which need to be dealt with and sorted for recycling. The various types of plastic have been identified and divided into 7 categories:
- PET which typically used for fizzy drink bottles
- HDPE used for milk bottles
- PVC for clingfilm
- LDPE for carrier bags
- PP for butter tubs
- PS for plasticvending cups and hamburger boxes
- Other – any plastic which does not fit into the previous categories
Allen Waste collect these plastics and take them to the Hinkcroft Recycling Centre where they will be shredded or baled for onward shipping to processors of plastics. We use UK based reprocessors and do not export any of our recyclables.
